INTERNSHIPS
In 2015, Afrikan Magick Temple collaborated with Middlebury College’s Centre for Careers and Internships (CCI) to create internship (volunteer) opportunities to serve our cause: the preservation and education of traditional West African spirituality and medicine. This unpaid internship opportunity is not limited to Middlebury College students.
The primary objective of the internship is to generate content for and promote our website. Interns will work with healers to create short clips, photo albums, podcasts, blog posts, etc. about specific themes in Vodu - gender, drum and dance, spirit possession, herbal medicine and more. Secondarily, they will digitally organize already existing shrine records.
Spanish and French speakers will be asked to translate some documents into English. Our efforts will be geared towards strengthening our online presence to facilitate the understanding and further research of Vodun as well as to generate a positive image for an age-old tradition that has been widely stigmatized and misunderstood.
We are looking for students adept in photography, filmmaking, web and app development, writing, social media marketing, or other pertinent fields. Above all, we are looking for creative interns who think critically and have an interest in learning about Vodun.
During their first few weeks in Ghana, interns will be immersed in the life of the Ewe people through various rituals, drum and dance sessions, as well as interactions with several Vodun priests (they are welcome but not required to practice with us). Interns will also have the opportunity to explore the rich culinary traditions, tropical landscape, and urban lifestyle of Accra, one of the most exciting and rapidly developing cities on the African Continent.
The shrine will accommodate for up to a month, ideally from July to August, however, dates are flexible. Food will be provided if requested, but at an additional cost.
Email Christopher Voncujovi (afrikanmagick@gmail.com) if interested with your resume and a short essay (400 words max) about why you want to volunteer with us. College students should get a letter of recommendation from a faculty member at their institution.
